Getting to What You Want
There is so much information out there, Podcasts, YouTube, all of the social media platforms, streaming platforms. etc…. It’s great, and there’s always a new study coming out. It’s all great.
And how do you get to what you want? And how do you move in that direction? In every important decision that I have ever made, it’s been about getting quiet, consulting my inner higher power or God, and feeling deeply into my heart and gut for the right way to go. How about you? I am guessing that is the way most people make important decisions. When push comes to shove, a study can tell you this, or your friend can say that, but the buck stops with you. It’s your life.
And, isn’t that the beauty of it. What works for one, won’t for another. And, sometimes it does. But you have to decide. You’re the King or Queen of your life. That’s the best! Right?!
I am first and foremost a therapist, but I believe that therapy is ultimately about helping you get what you want. (It’s really about allowing, but that’s another blog:). I can do a ton of trauma work with you, but if that doesn’t help you to access who you are at your core so that you can go for the things that make you happy, what’s the point?
Fortunately, good therapy will do that, get you in touch with your core values, and what you want out of life. Hooray!!
Everything that I do in therapy is around helping you to listen to yourself. In parts work, or Internal Family Systems, that is called the core self. Someone can tell you what works for them in any given situation, but it’s best to use that to weigh what they say up against your core values. They are giving you a mirror so that you can bounce ideas off of your inner world, what I would call your intuition. Good therapy will also develop that, your intuition.
At the core of my practice are two methods of work, The Work, or Inquiry, from Byron Katie, and internal Family Systems. I also add elements of the Law of Attraction and particular teachers like Joe Dispenza. The beauty is that the focus is on developing your ability to listen to your truth, your intuition, your gut and heart. In parts work, it’s listening to your parts and finding their wisdom.
From there, you can decide what you want and go for it. And, I can help you with ways to make that easier through things like creative visualization, setting intentions, asking for help, and the art of allowing things to unfold, including your own decision-making process.
I believe that life is about discovering your heart’s desires and going for them with all of your being. It may take some work, and it’s always worth it. My job is to listen, offer options for interventions, and hold space as you find your way there.
